I am so Attracted to Magnets

A while ago I bought a button maker.  I love it!  What I really like making are magnets.  Find a cute paper, punch it out, put the parts in the machine and, bam, you have a cool magnet.  I love my button maker so much, I just bought a second one.  I have a one inch button maker and I am soon to have a one and a half inch button maker.  I can’t wait to get it.  Let me know if you need some cool magnets 🙂

Please don’t tell my husband that I will soon have another button maker.  I told him I would clean up my craft room last year.  Now I know that last year was really only a couple of weeks ago, but I am pretty sure I told him I would clean up my room last, last year; and it is still not clean.  This is a problem, because I kind of said I would clean my room before I bought the bigger button maker.  Well, I do have Monday off in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  So guess what I will be doing on Monday :-).

Here is my latest card.  I used the button maker to make a cute flower magnet.  Then I attached it to a card.  So when I send the card, it is also a little gift.  Pretty cool, right!

Back on the Wagon!

Happy 2016 to everyone!  I started my year with a quick trip to Arizona to visit with my family and to host a baby shower for my niece.  It was a lovely party (and the food was great; thanks to my sister!).  What a great way to start a year.

One of the things I am looking forward to this year is getting back into my crafts and keeping up with my blog.  So, for the first week in January, I thought I would share a card-in-the-box I made the last week in December.  bike in a box 3

I really like stamp sets that have corresponding die cuts.  This set has the cute step through bike stamped in orange and a road bike stamped in dark purple.  I used a really awesome, double sided card stock – one side with bicycles and the other side is a pretty green pattern.  I added the stars and arrows just for fun.

I have another cute card I made with button magnets that I will share soon.

May the new year bring you and your family health and happiness!

Reboot Day Three

This weekend I met up with my friend and we did a bit of crafting.  I brought my Sizzix Bigshot and a few dies and a bunch of Stampin’ Up! Halloween stamps.  I used my new favorite die, the step up card and went to town.  I stamped out this totally awesome witch.  Tonight, I pulled out my Copic markers and added a bit of green to that witch.  She looks good, doesn’t she!

I don’t like the stamps on the bottom too much, so for the next one, I think I’ll skip them.

Day Two of the Reboot

This is day two of a full week of crafts.  I have been neglectful of the peace and joy that crafts bring, so I am making a concentrated effort to do at least one crafty thing every day this week.  So you will have to forgive the bad lighting on my pictures, because if I wait until the sun comes out, I won’t keep going.

I was at Craft Warehouse a couple of weeks ago and both the cutest stamp set with corresponding dies from Lawn Fawn.  What is sweeter than a gumball machine?  Last weekend I bought a new Sizzix A2 sized step up card.  And then I had the idea for this card.

I thought you might like to see my new storage solution for my Accucut dies.  These awesome cubbies are from Ikea.

I recently got a label maker so I could easily tell which die is which.  If you need any invitations or party favors, I’m your gal!

Getting Back on Track

So I started this venture with the best intentions and actually did a good job of regularly posting some cool (and not so cool) projects.  Then I fell off the face of the planet.  Not literally.  I have been really busy with work and trying to learn how to play tennis.  The work is going well, and the tennis, not so much.

I haven’t done too much crafting lately, but I am committed to get back on track.  My most recent work was another card-in-a-box.

So my goal is to do some sort of crafty project every day this week and blog about it.  Wish me luck!

Thnaks!

Long ago I worked for a man named Jim.  He was an awesome boss.  He gave good feedback, was supportive, mentored me and was an all around good guy.  He did have one fault, though.  He was not the best typist; I think he typed too fast.  Especially the word thanks.  I think he typed it correctly only 25% of the time.  I have to admit, I have the same problem.  The newer email systems have better auto correct and error notifications.  So my fond memories of “Thnaks!” and “Thansk!” are just that, memories.  To all the young professionals, I hope you have  a Jim for a boss at least once in your career.

Still Loving Cards-in-a-Box!

My friend at work has a husband.  He has a birthday in May.  After showing her the card-in-a-box I made last week, she asked me if I could make a card for her husband.  I said YES!  What else would I say?

Awhile ago I bought a really cute stamp set on ebay.  The set included a few planets, a rocket and a mini astronaut. I had been planning a card with the astronaut floating above the earth and using the sentiment, “you’re out of this world.”  The card-in-a-box was the perfect way to put this plan into action.  Black cardstock with black sparkle paper made the best space background.  Check it out!

My friend said her husband loved his card.  She thought he may have liked the card even more than his gift.

Say Thank You with Style!

My friend’s daughter is getting married in two weeks!  I made cute boxes for her bridal shower and I am making little thank you notes to go with the wedding favors.  Each guest will get a stemless wine glass with the couple’s initials in gold.  I thought a note in the glass would look great.  To make the gold lettering stand out, I made a silver-grey envelope for the thank yous.  The cards are a light blush cardstock, with thank you pressed into the front.  I tied twine with a gold strand across the top.  The inside is layered gold and shimmer white.

The overall look is very elegant and simple.

Cute and Simple

Sometimes the best looking cards are the simple ones.  I am on a window cut out kick.  I will take a normal A2 sized card and cut out a small square on the front of the card.  Then I will put a small decorative element inside the card, just a teeny bit smaller than the window I cut out.  That is it.  Nothing fancy.  But somehow it seems elegant to me.  Of course I might just be a little biased.

The most recent card uses kraft grey paper, with a small purple flower.   The flower was punched with a stamping up whale punch.  I adhered a little pink rhinestone in the middle of the flower for a little bling.  Everything looks good with a little bling!

This card was quick and easy, but a satisfying project.

When You Are Stressed, Make Something!

I have been just a little stressed out at work recently. A colleague retired and we don’t have a replacement yet.  So I am pulling double duty.  It has been fun learning, but I need something to calm down my brain when I get home.  So I have been using my craft room full of toys to destress my life.

This weekend I opened up a new ink for my letterpress.  A beautiful deep purple. I pressed a bunch of “Happy Birthday” tags to use on cards.  Once I have a good example I will post a picture!

I also made up some cute construction themed party invitations using the Stampin’ Up set “Fun on Wheels” set.
